Cookery demonstration at the GreenBuild event

Sustainable living and how to help the environment were hot topics at a ‘green’ event taking place this weekend.

This year’s GreenBuild event, held at Felbrigg Hall near Cromer, featured a record 70 exhibitors, 13 farmer’s market stalls and seven children’s’ entertainers, showing people how to lead a greener lifestyle.

The event, hosted by North Norfolk District Council, also included the John Sweeney Award for the Environment recognising the efforts of grassroots green projects in the district.

Joint winners were Mundesley Scout Hut which has been built with energy and sustainability a foremost consideration and the Roots and Shoots project based at Holt Hall which engages children in environmental activities such as planting raised beds and making outdoor classrooms and environmental artwork.

Each winner received a cheque for £250 as well as a commemorative plaque.

Terry Jones, part of the building committee for the scout hut, said wining the award felt “amazing”. Chris Wright, project manager of Roots and Shoots said: “We feel very honoured to have been selected.”
