It premiered to the world in Norwich last summer but the Alan Partridge movie had its US premiere in the United States this weekend.
The film, titled simply Alan Partridge, opened in the US on Friday with a review of the film in the New York Times predicting that the film’s creator Steve Coogan manages to “keep the project from going soft, and to keep us perched between finding Alan Partridge unbearable and admitting that we kind of enjoy his company”.
Last summer red carpet fever hit Norwich when Alan Partridge came to Anglia Square.
He decided to visit the fine city after a campaign to get the premier of Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa held in Norwich went viral.
Dressed in a baby blue short-sleeved suit with a pink tie, the cult broadcaster stepped out of his silver Mercedes people carrier to the claps and cheers of his army of fans at Hollywood Cinema.
The Anglia Square not Leicester Square campaign got around 8,000 likes on Facebook, and the spectacle at Anglia Square drew huge crowds.
Partridge said he decided on the Anglia Square premiere because “the locals of this fine city have spoken”.
He added: “I’m proud of Norwich, proud of this film, proud of myself, so the three things together, what have you got, Alan Partridge premiere here in Norwich, it’s that simple.”
When asked about the film itself, Partridge described it as a game-changer and one that “could spark a cultural renaissance that is as cultural as the renaissance.”
Fans described the premiere as an event they would never forget.
