Garden fencing and a chicken enclosure in the rear garden of a property in Foxburrow Road were set alight in the early hours last Friday.

Trees behind the enclosure, which backs onto a walkway, were also severely burnt.

Larysa Drabble was asleep with her husband at the home when she heard a knock on the door at about 2.30am.

She said: “It was the fire brigade. When we went out into our garden the shed and chicken enclosure at the bottom was ablaze. Half of our chickens - about a dozen - died. There was nothing anyone could do to save them.

“It was a very unpleasant feeling, especially when you think that someone has taken those chickens’ lives.”

She believes that the arson attack is connected to a break-in at the same shed on February 7.

She added: “Nothing was taken in that break-in but I think it could be the same people, although I don’t know who they may be.”

The family has lived at the home since 2002 and had the chickens for about a year.

PC Tom Mann, Sprowston Safer Neighbourhood Team, would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or has information concerning it. PC Mann can be contacted on 101 or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
