Music fan Ollie Towler-Jones was a “great role model for other students”, one of his former teachers has said.

The 18-year-old was at Latitude Festival when he complained of feeling unwell on Saturday, and sadly died hours later in hospital.

He had suffered a suspected blood infection after a dream holiday days earlier in Malia, in Crete, Greece.

Jim Nixon, headteacher of City of Norwich School (CNS), said: “We were all devastated to hear the news about Ollie Towler-Jones who died at the weekend and our heartfelt condolences go out to Ollie’s parents and family.

“Ollie was a popular student at CNS with staff and pupils and was affectionately known as TJ. He was a part of Blakeney House.

“When I heard the news on Sunday morning I was devastated.

“It really brings home the fragility of life and makes you realise how important life is.

“It is such a tragic loss of a beautiful young life.”

Ollie, who lived off Earlham Road, in Norwich, had worked as a junior developer for a local IT company.

Gary Seal, head of media studies at CNS, said: “Ollie will be remembered by all at CNS with great fondness.

“He was such a kind and caring student.

“His thoughtful and gentle manner made him a great role model for other students, and he was so very popular with his peers and with his teachers.

“Ollie showed great promise in the creative subjects during his studies at CNS.

“He had a flair for graphics and created wonderful films in media studies as a sixth former.

“We’ll remember with strong affection his subtle humour and his great helpfulness, his creativity and his kindness.”

His parents praised the emergency services for doing all they could.
