A road closure sign has confused locals due to the mention of a hill that doesn't exist.

The sign appeared near the roundabout in Catton Grove Road stating "Angel Hill closed ahead".

NR3 folk have been amused at the sign, which warns of diversions due to work in Angel Road.

The blunder on the sign comes from the roadworks operated by Cadent Gas Networks.

A Cadent spokesman said: “We’d like to thank the EDP and Evening News for highlighting this error to us.

"We are in contact with our traffic management team who be checking all of the signage and will get this mistake rectified as quickly as possible.”

The unfortunate mix-up may have actually been getting into the grammatical spirit of a popular chippy in the area, named Chish and Fips.

Angel Road also has a notable place in the history of Norwich, as the city's first council home was built there in October 1920.

The emergency closure came after a reported gas leak in the area.
