Norwich is a vibrant city full of new things to try and it is constantly evolving each year.
Here are five things every local has to do in Norwich in 2024.
1) Visit the Norwich Castle keep
After years of work, The Royal Palace Reborn project that started in 2020 is set to be completed this summer.
The project was initially intended to be open in 2023 but Covid and other delays pushed back the opening date.
Work on the castle includes reinstating original medieval floors and room spaces, bringing alive the sights and sounds of the palace of the Norman kings.
A new permanent Gallery of Medieval Life will showcase exceptional artefacts from the Norman Conquest to the reign of Henry VIII.
2) Watch a film at the Chantry Place cinema
A new Everyman Cinema will be moving into the city centre shopping centre.
The boutique cinema chain offers a slightly different experience with the chance to swap a fizzy fountain drink for a cocktail or glass of red wine, and a bag of sweets for a halloumi-sharing platter.
The four-screen cinema will be moving into three units including the former Pizza Hut and Escape Hunt.
3) Try new food vendors at Yalm
The food hall in The Royal Arcade has seven independent kitchens and three independent bars serving everything from steaks to ramen.
Yalm has seen some new additions that are worth a try including The Diner from Bodega and Christophe’s Kitchen.
The diner serves up a whole range of sandwiches and subs including a braised beef rib cheesesteak and salt beef bagels.
Christophe's serves its much-loved crepes, pancakes, French toast and baked desserts.
4)Try the city's new coffee shops
Norwich has one of the best coffee cultures around with loads of artisan houses to choose from.
Buffalo Coffee Brewers in St Benedicts Street opened in October and has already made a big impact.
Owner Giles Hayward-Smith said: "Buffalo Coffee Brewers has landed on one of the best streets in the city and it is so nice to be part of the Norwich Lanes."
Snowdrop Coffee Shop is also a new addition to the city after opening in Rose Lane in December.
It serves Green Farm Coffee which is a local supplier based in Rackheath.
5) Explore Norwich Lanes
The award-winning Norwich Lanes is full of independent businesses, including a cinema, a community theatre, two museums, several galleries and a whole host of live music venues.
One of the Lane's newest additions is lifestyle shop Arca which sells a great variety of curated homeware, furniture and prints.
Or if you are feeling peckish, the new pizza shop Slice has opened in Bridewell Alley.
Chef Jeff Taylor said: "Slice on the Lanes is multi-faceted - we are a cosy café during the day with coffees, Kookie Ko's treats, amazing sandwiches and flatbreads and deep-dish pizza by the slice with homemade dough, which you can funk up with sauces and coleslaw, to eat-in or takeaway.
"Then on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, you can again enjoy pizza by the slice but it is unlimited for £17pp, with vegetarian and vegan options."
