Work on a long-awaited skate park on the edge of the city has finally started.
Hundreds of people have moved onto the White House Farm estate in Sprowston as houses have been built in the last decade but some of the promised community facilities have been slow to follow.
Sprowston Town Council has been pushing the housing developers to deliver, with a play area in Overstrand Way completed in September, but the skatepark was raised in a 2021 survey of locals.
Now the proposed land in Blue Boar Lane, near Sprowston Sports and Social Club, has been cleared.
Town council chairman Bill Couzens said: “This is at least the third site to be earmarked for the skatepark and I am at least the fifth chair of council to progress this project.
“The other sites failed for one reason or another but this one will definitely go ahead in the near future.

“As you have seen the site has been cleared, the car park built and the bunds and footpaths near the site are in place.”
The council are now waiting for the developers to complete their groundwork so the site can be handed over to Broadland District Council, from there it will be handed to the town council so they can provide the equipment.

Mr Couzens continued: “We will be working with our local youth group, Sprowston Youth Engagement Project, on the final design.
“It will also be close to the wooded areas and we are expecting to provide an open area suitable for five-a-side football and general play.

“There could also be room for some picnic benches and play equipment on the site.”
A spokesman for Persimmon Homes added: “We have been preparing the site and groundworks for the skate park, and the new car park, for the last six weeks and construction work on this phase is progressing well.
“We’re very much looking forward to the opening of the skate park next year.”
