Two buses crashed near Brooke this afternoon after traffic chaos caused by a vehicle fire.

The X22 from Norwich to Loddon was forced to divert through Poringland after its normal route was blocked by a crash on the A143 Stockton Roundabout.

Problems caused by the van fire involved in the Stockton crash meant that the bus had to take an alternative route through narrow country lanes - where it then crashed into another First double-decker.

The Peugeot van caught fire after a collision attended by emergency services at 3.56pm. The road was closed for investigation work.

Elizabeth Orland, a passenger on the bus, which left Norwich at 3.30pm, said: "On approaching the Stockton roundabout on the A143, we noticed thick black smoke and flames ahead.

"After a while, we headed back to Brooke and turned right at the crossroads, onto Mundham Road.

Norwich Evening News:

"We carefully passed multiple buses, but at Mundham we encountered another bus. The drivers tried to pass each other carefully, but ended up scraping and then smashing the windows."

Passengers were then told to evacuate the bus and find alternate transport home. No one on board was hurt.
