One year after battling cancer, a Norwich boxer is to fulfill a lifelong dream when she takes to the ring at London's O2 Arena to fight on the same card as Floyd Mayweather.

Part-time shop worker Carla McKenzie-Le Roy, 36, has only had four fights in her 10-year career after it was put on hold when she was diagnosed with a rare type of lymphoma cancer associated with breast implants.

On February 23, 2022, the fighter - nicknamed the Vegan Warrior - underwent an operation to remove the cancer.

On February 25 this year, she will do battle with London's Rosanna Cox on one of boxing's biggest stages.

Mrs McKenzie-Le Roy, who runs Assasins Gym in Helford Street and works part-time in Co-Op, will only have four weeks to prepare for the bout after she received a surprise phone call from her promoter.

She said: "I was delighted, they phoned two weeks ago and I was super shocked, but you can't turn that down.

"It's one of those things you never think will be possible.

Norwich Evening News:

"I want to put Norwich on the map with this."

The mother-of-three, who grew up in the Larkman area of the city and now lives in Eaton, has had to drop 40kg to prepare for the fight, which she has been able to do on her vegan diet.

She said the diet gave her loads of energy despite only taking in 800 calories per day, crediting "plenty of vegetables" for getting her through tiring sparring sessions.

Norwich Evening News:

The bout will be an exhibition match with no judges present and Mrs McKenzie-Le Roy is looking forward to showcasing her skills.

She added: "I hope I'll get the win in but I'm just happy with the experience.

"I'd love to come out on top though, it's such an exciting opportunity."

Ms McKenzie-Le Roy is still looking for sponsors for the fight with anyone interested able to contact her on 07413 897171.
