A busy city road which was closed while police negotiated with a man in distress has been re-opened.
Police had closed Earlham Road between the Fiveways Roundabout and the Three Score junction because of a man threatening to harm himself.
Officers were called by a member of the public at 2.27pm, and specially trained officers held negotiations with him.
The fire service sent crews from Hethersett, Wroxham add Thetford, together with surface rescue boats to help police.
Bus companies warned passengers about delays and cancelled some services, and police asked drivers to choose alternative routes.
The incident was brought to an end when the man was detained under the Mental Health Act at about 5.35pm.
Police said there was no wider threat to the public during the incident, and thanked motorists for their patience while the incident was on going and for avoiding the area and finding alternative routes.
