A signalling fault on the Norwich to London train line is expected to continue to cause disruption for passengers until midnight.

Train passengers planning to travel from Norwich to London, or in the opposite direction, are being advised to go via Cambridge after a fault with the signalling system between Ipswich and Stowmarket led to all lines being blocked.

While Network Rail are on the scene trying to restore the service, train operator Abellio Greater Anglia said the disruption was expected to continue until midnight.

Train services between London Liverpool Street and Norwich will be suspended between Ipswich and Diss, and while Abellio Greater Anglia is arranging for a replacement bus service for the stretch, it is advising passengers to use routes via Cambridge.

Abellio Greater Anglia tickets will be accepted on London Underground services between Liverpool Street and King’s Cross, First Capital Connect train services between London King’s Cross and Ely, and on East Midlands Trains services between Ely and Norwich, in both directions until further notice.

An hourly train service is in operation between London and Ipswich and a service is in operation between Diss and Norwich.

Services between Ipswich and Cambridge and those between Ipswich and Peterborough via Ely have also been affected.

A spokeswoman for Abellio Greater Anglia said: “We are working with Network Rail to restore the service as quickly as possible and we apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
