An early morning London Liverpool Street to Norwich train was affected because of staffing issues.

The 6.25am Greater Anglia service, due to arrive in Norwich at 8.27am on Monday January 15 ended up starting its journey in Ipswich, rather than the capital.

A statement on the Greater Anglia website said the service alteration happened 'due to waiting for a train crew member'.

There were also delays of 15 minutes on other Greater Anglia services to Norwich on January 15 'due to a fault with the signalling system between Manningtree and Ipswich'.

A Network Rail spokesman said the signalling problem was due to a 'track circuit failure' on the Bentley level.

The fault was reported at 6am on January 15 but fixed by 9am.

A Greater Anglia spokesman said: 'Passengers were delayed between Ipswich and Manningtree this morning [January 15] due to a signalling fault. Network Rail engineers worked to fix the fault as soon as possible and it was repaired by 9am.

'We apologise to passengers for the inconvenience caused. Passengers who were delayed by more than 30 minutes can claim delay repay compensation.'
