A construction skills programme has received regional recognition for sustainability and will now go on to a national competition.

The Fabric First Institute won the sustainability category at the East on England Constructing Excellence Awards.

The facility, which opened at the end of last year, has taught 180 people low energy building skills.

Jackie Richards, of Whole House Energy which leads the programme, said: 'This is a tremendous boost to this project, having won this accolade.

'We will now be going to the national finals.

'We are absolutely delighted to receive this news.'

The project is run from the Easton campus of Easton and Otley College and is the result of partnership with several construction firms and Norwich City Council.

It has received funding from the New Anglia Skills Deal Programme.
