Why do so many of the young people have to post their messages in pale pink. I have a pretty good monitor but still find it difficult to see. I you want to get your point across how about making it easier for people to read?

hi, im new to this and i found this topic from google... anyway
i found that lots of the remarks on this topic are completely out of the question as someone is just looking for advice. I agree that some adults are rude as are teenagers.
i am not taking a side but merely expressing my opinion, i am also looking for a job but at 13 it can be a toughie, i did get a job where you have to hold up a sign for £4 an hour, and they only called me in once as there are people who are usually there anyway.
i hope all of the teenagers who are looking for jobs find some like me
^_^

My name is Toni Scanlon and not being funny but im 15 and at this age you people should be greatful that there is chidlren this age trying to get a job when there is most 20 -30 year olds who sit on their bums all day and don't do any work what so ever. I also talk on msn and that is the way everyone talks on msn just so they don't have to type every single letter cause when im on msn i get really tired typing all the time its just a type of slang. so yo0u should be greatfull he wants to start his life now rather that not get a job at all and i must tell you i got a paper round at the age of 14 and it is quite boring. children this age need a more exciting job.thanks for listening

How did this get blown out of proportion so badly? Who cares if he writes in computer slang?
I'm 14, and I think it's great that Jason's looking for a job. I want a job too, but the only one I can find is a Newspaper round, which is hideously boring.
If you don't mind not getting paid you could always try volunteer work...
Hope it helps

Hi Lina
How nice to see a 14 year old who can write properly. As far as writing in 'Computer Slang' you will find that most Forums on the web don't condone this and require at least a semblance of conventional English. They don't expect it to be perfect and are usually very tolerant of spelling and grammar mistakes but they do expect it to be easily readable.
As far as the job situation is concerned, having recently retired from a job as a Quality Analyst with a major company, I can assure you that most jobs, despite what they are called, are for the most part BORING, and you will spend many hours doing the same thing over and over again. The reality is that heady vision of interesting, glamourous, highly paid jobs is something that you will find just doesn't happen for the greater majority.

Being a 15 year old, i am tired of the stereotype that because we are teenagers, "we al tlk lyk dis". Even some of the teenagers on here are wrong, as I use msn, and countless chat programs, and i type like this all the time. I make the occasional spelling error because i type quickly, but they are usually corrected. Most of the people i know, while they type in text/msn slang, have the capacity to type normally, but don't do it because their typing is slow.
But anyway, back onto the issue at hand (which this topic sorely needs..)
I'm 15, and i would love a job. However, paper rounds are in short supply here, because everyone does them. Most places simply won't hire you because of your age, and the legal problems which go with hiring someone of that age. A couple of years back, me and 2 of my friends went around my town and washed peoples cars. However, this is only applicable in the summer, as the weather most of the time isn't right (hopefully, global warming will change this). I am now thinking of other ways to make money, usually involving the internet. However, other people might not be as lucky as me, might not have the idea or the skills to pull it off. What it really boils down to, is the legal barriers for hiring someone under 16. If the government raised some of these, then it would be much easier to find jobs. It would also probably lower the amount of people on Dole (which this country really should be thinking about), because they had working experience from an earlier age, and got into the workflow.
To the people who said "Enjoy your childhood while you can", The real fact is, children are growing up faster than last generation, and that isn't a bad thing, but if people are growing up faster, and the 'system' isn't, then we'll have a huge problem on our hands.

Kenneth, how old are you ? I will tell you something now GCSE's are what children go through 12 to 14 years of education for, And no they dont hand them out easily .. May i ask what job you do which is superiour to every one elses? there is a fine line between truth and sarcasm here .. as you seem to think that everyone aged 14 are lower class to you. Without us there would be nothing here .. fair enough you probably have done some good in your time .. but its time to let that go no Kenneth and start supporting the younger generation. Just remember we are your future .. and when you are 70 and begging to stay at home .. i will .. with pleasure .. escort you to the old people's centre. What good can you do the world now ? apart from make rude remarks at our generation.

There are many replies on this topic giving helpful hints and tips but it seems these are overlooked by many of the young people on here who just want to moan and expect jobs to fall into their laps.
Ok, write how you like, speak how you like, it is up to you what you do but do not expect employers to want to hire you when you are not even flexible enough to use the idiom of the business world. Employers require staff to carry out instructions, not use their own input unless allowed to do so, if you cannot or will not comply with even the basic of requirements, you will not be employable.
If, you are willing to comply in a helpful way with good humour and manners, then it will be a different story and the opportunities can arise but you will have to start at the bottom and of course these will be the mundane and ordinary tasks that most people have to do before they have proved their worth to the employers.
When you leave school, you are the top of the class, when you start work you are at the bottom of the workforce, it is the way of the world and no amount of moaning or being workshy because it is beneath you and bores you rigid is going to make one iota of difference apart from showing you the way to the Job Centre.
As for spelling mistakes, young people are computer literate these days, try using a spell check before posting, that will solve most of the problem.
Oh yes, good luck to those who try hard to get a job without the tedious me me me attitude, that is the correct way to go and I wish you well.

Well its encouraging that many young people are using the EN site and Forum to share information and state their opinions about learning and future work opportunities, and also looking at the news, events and issues around Norwich.

Hello Jason,
Two years have passed since you posted your request for help in getting a job. I sincerely hope that the sensible advice and abusive postings helped you to obtain a job you like. Please do another post and let the people who care about you know whether you managed to get a job and whether it has helped you.
A lot of us adults do care very much and would be very interested to know whether you are now working and happy.
Good Luck,
Stan Ley.
