Broadband In Norwich Area

Adi Pope 12/02/2008, 9:55 PM

Hi I live in the NR2 area of Norwich and i have a bt line, I am putting this message out to people who live in the NR2 area to let you know that the west norwich exchange is not giving people the best broadband speed, I am only getting 256kbps and paying £17pm but I was told that I can get up to 8MB. So why should we be paying for 8MB when we are not getting that speed? I feel that everyone in this area should check what speed they are getting, if you are getting slow speed then we should do something about it. Most people in the big citys and towns are all getting the top broadband speeds and paying the same price as us.

I would like to start a petition so i can send it to BT. If you would like to take part in the petition please contact me at aga.pope@hotmail.co.uk. I will then send this off (as advised by my broadband provider) to BT to get then to update the exchange in this area.

I have spoken to the Newsdesk at Evening News, who have said that if i can get a petition started they will look into making a story out of it.

Thanks

Mr Adrian Pope

I live in NR2 and use Virgin, pay for 2 MB and get about 1.95MB which is very good. All for £18 per month. Why not change to Virgin? (Disclaimer: I get no financial or other advantage for recommending Virgin.)

The operative words are 'up to 8mb'. I think you will find that there is no guarantee as to the actual speed you will get.

I agree with 'Disgusted of South Norwich' that Virgin Cable broadband consistantly gives about 1.95mb on the 2mb option. This is because it uses the CATV Optical Cable network and is not affected by the inefficiency of the copper cable network and distance from the exchange of the BT service.

I live in NR2 and I had the same problem, I found out that my broadband supplier had not activated MAX DSL on my line and was stuck on 2Mbps and paying for 8.
After I pointed it out  it was a quick and simple switch and I now get 7.1Mbps out of the maximum 8.
http//:  into your router and check the stats, if you are on 8Mbps your downstream will state 8128 and your upstream 448
