What are Norwich secondary schools like?

HI – I’m about to move to Norwich (probably west of the city centre) with my daughter, who’ll be going into year 8 in Sept.  I want to start looking at schools – does anyone have inside info or just thoughts on the relative merits / non merits of schools in the area – eg  Costessey, Earlham, Hewett?

Most Norwich secondary schools are rubbish. Look at the league tables. I'd avoid all those you mention plus the Blyth Jex like the plague. The Notre Dame isn't too bad and neither is Thorpe. The CNS isn't too bad either.

CNS is a decent enough school, was there from year 8 til sixth form, finished 2 years ago, they've had a lot of new building work done etc. Notredame and Thorpe and both alright as well, i've got friends who went to both, and general opinion was a good one. Earlham and Blyth Jex are to be avoided, wouldn't recommend them myself!

Re: What are Norwich secondary schools like?

I went to Heartsease High in the 1990s and I turned out OK. Big Smile [:D] My mum wanted me to go to Hewett instead (she went there in the 50s when it was Lakenham Girls School) but I didn't fancy the bus ride...especially when Heartsease High was on my doorstep. But when I was 12 I just assumed that one school was equally as good as the other if state owned. Indifferent [:|] An ex-girlfriend lived near Hewett High but this was full so she went to Eaton CNS instead when she moved to Norwich.

I used to do a parcel delivery round and a number of times, have noticed a police car at Sprowston High School quite a few times. The plot thickens...
