Re: Why are ther no jobs for 14 and a half year olds???
Hello,

I am also a 15 year old looking for a good place to work part time. I have looked all around for jobs at local supermarkets etc. but nothing has come my way. I am 16 in November so then hopefully I can apply for a real part time job then to get me going, but for the moment I am really skint with cash and it would really help me earn some genuine experience of what work life is like.

If any of you on this forum could advise me on some vacancies it would be much appreciated or email me at scottncfc@gmail.com

Thankyou

-Scott

Re: RE: Why are ther no jobs for 14 and a half year olds???

Hi i think its got something to do with insurance and the child labour laws. Me and my brother used to collect newspapers on a go kart and take them to warmingers paper merchant. It didnt take many papers to get enough to go to langleys and buy a small toy each.

sadly nowadays the council profits in the name of "recycling" but theres a lot of money in scrap and waste.

If i were 14 again i would go around the main market and ask. Also go for the SMALL  businesses, theyre not so tied with red tape. tell them youre an odd jobber or gopher and you dont mind sweeping up or making tea. Fruit shops, cafes, just pick what you want and walk in. Ask to speak to the manager as an assistant will just fob you off.  If you cant get near the boss then write a letter and hand it in for the attention of...find out the managers name.

You could write out the same letter and photocopy it, just leave the company names blank so you can quickly fill it in. Take these letters around with you so they are instantly ready. Include the benefits of them employing you, (see further into this post)

Try not to dress to scruffy or geeky. I always think a white t shirt or any white top (no hoody) makes you look clean, even if worn with jeans. A t shirt makes you look physical and ready for action. Clean your trainers too. Smell good but dont overpower. If its an office job then dress suitable. Just look clean, healthy and energetic.

Even if its a menial job, act the same, dont slouch and dont give attitude.

Ive got jobs i never thought i was good enough for and i think its down to the interview. Sit upright or on the edge of your seat. Seem intensely interested in their business, they will love to talk about their business. Shake hands firmly, show your confidence even if youre bricking it.

"so what can you bring to our organisation?" what a question, i just thought about my working personality and said, "110 percent effort, humour, honesty and reliability." and make sure your face mirrors your keenness.

good luck and please post on here when (not if) you have that job

I don't really think that your post was very fair, 'ironsmad'.  Jason, and the other 14 and 15 year olds on here, were only asking for advice about a job, and where to look for one.  I too am 14, and came across this forum on Google.  I was about to ask for advice too, but i must say that I'm shocked at the immaturity of the people on here; my 10 year-old brother could probably act more mature than you!

Give Jason a break. Yes, this is the 21st Century, and alot of the teenagers online, and through texting, will abbreviate words.  I'd be lying if I said that all of you have never made a typo error before, and a few mistakes only make people wiser!
