One of its best-loved events of the year returns to the North Norfolk Railway this weekend. The Bulldog Spirit that saw us through the darkest days of the 20th century is celebrated on the Poppy Line with its famous 1940s Weekend.

Every station along the scenic will be protected against attack, Dads' Army troops will be practising their drill up and down the line, despatch riders will be out in force.

GI Joes will be doing their bit alongside our army, navy and air force lads. And civilians in typical period dress will be doing their best to keep calm and carry on.

There'll be wartime grub, music and dancing - and you can buy 1940s gear and ephemera at the flea market by Holt station. There will a Saturday evening party at Sheringham station (£1 admission, food and drink extra). Pop along in period costume and add to the nostalgic fun.
