DJ in spin after CDs snatched

A DJ has been put in a spin after his collection of more than 2,000 CDs was stolen from a trailer parked outside his home.

Chris Watts, 59, has spent years amassing the sizeable collection of hits for all occasions with CDs ranging from old classics such as Glenn Miller and Elvis to more contemporary tunes.

But the Hethersett Junior School teacher has been left all shook up after crooks broke into his trailer parked in front of his home in St David's Road, Hethersett, and stole his collection.

“For me it's been devastating,” said the father-of-three who will have to cancel a number of gigs at one of the busiest times of year.

“I've got the Wensum Valley Hotel Christmas season supposed to start on Saturday so there are a lot of gigs and a lot of people to contact.

“I was going to do a disco in a couple of weeks for the kids at school but that's all got to be changed now.”

Police are investigating the theft, which happened sometime between midnight and 12.15am on Thursday.

“A neighbour heard a hell of a racket,” said Mr Watts. “He said they must have used pliers and bolt cutters. They just sheared it off and took it away.

“There were about 2,000 CDs going back to the late 1950s - early Elvis, Glenn Miller - right up to current stuff.

“It's the first time anything like this has happened. Occasionally a CD goes missing, but this is the first time there's been anything of any worth. I felt absolutely awful, it's as if part of my world has just collapsed.”

Mr Watts said crime scene investigators have been out to the scene to try to find any clues as to who was responsible for the theft.

He fears his collection may now have been broken up and be being sold on at different places across the country.

He has provided a list of his CDs to police who will check to see if the stolen music turn up for sale around the city.

Anyone with any information should contact Norfolk police on 0845 456 4567 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
