Science fiction fans did not have to head for a galaxy far, far away to see their heroes when stars of Hollywood cult favourites and television classics arrived in the city.

Iconic characters from films and programmes such as Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Dr Who, and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe delighted more than 1,200 people who headed to the Sci-Fi Film Toy and Collectors Fair on Sunday .

Organised by the Norwich and District Star Wars Club, in conjunction with Hollywood Cinemas, the event was a celebration of all things fantastical.

David Prowse, aka Star Wars villain Darth Vader, was one of the 16 special guests as was 3ft 4in veteran actor Warwick Davis, who has played everything from Wicket the Ewok in Return Of The Jedi to Harry Potter's Professor Flitwick.

Others they were joined by included Terry Molloy, the creator of Davros, the evil leader of the Daleks in Doctor Who, Sophie Aldred who starred as Dr Who's sidekick Ace and Jeremy Bulloch who played bounty hunter Boba Fett in the Star Wars films.

David Frost, of the Norwich and District Star Wars Club, was one of the event's main organisers and dressed up as the fearsome Star Wars baddie Darth Maul, with many of his fellow club members also donning the garbs of their sci-fi heroes for the occasion.

Mr Frost said: “We had a fantastic day which exceeded all expectations. Everybody had a brilliant time and I would like to say a big thank you to everybody who contributed.

“It was a tremendous result which really helps to put Norwich on the map and helps us be the foremost Star Wars club in the country.”

Other groups were also there dressed in Star Wars costumes and medieval dress.

Film fans were also able to get their hands on sought after film memorabilia, autographs, costumes and props.

The Norwich and District Star Wars Club meets at Magdalen Gates First School on the last Friday of every month at 7pm. For more details visit www.norwichstarwarsclub.co.uk
