A lecturer from Norwich is part of a new documentary film which also features famous faces including Richard Branson and Bill Bryson.

Dr Sandra Leaton Gray, a lecturer in education in the University of East Anglia's school of education and lifelong learning, is one of the chief contributors to the film, We Are The People We've Been Waiting For.

The film is inspired and guided by Oscar-winning producer Lord Puttnam and Sir Michael Barber and asks whether the current UK educations system provides young people with the opportunity to develop their talents.

Ms Gray who lives in Cambridge, said: “One of the main things I said was that we have a 19th century model of education and we are a 21st century people.

“Children are sorted into groups according to age, made to keep a timetable and respond to a bell ringing. It is not preparing them for work.”

The film features high-profile figures sharing their personal experiences and views, including Sir Richard Branson, Germaine Greer, Henry Winkler, Bill Bryson, Sir Ken Robinson and a wide range of education experts from around the world.

Ms Gray attended a premiere of the film last week at the Empire Theatre in Leicester Square, London.
