These are the faces of some of the people who perfectly encapsulate our fine city.
After a long search and many entries, a competition to find 25 people to be the faces of our city is over.
The Mall in Norwich and the Evening News launched a bid for people to nominate those personalities who help make the city great.
Photographic portraits of the winners will be placed alongside images of people taken in the shopping centre as part of a new 1,000 Faces exhibition at The Mall this Friday.
The aim of the project is to generate a collection of photographic portraits that not only capture the essence and personalities of the shoppers within The Mall and Norwich, but also to be a photographic display representative of the residents, community and shoppers of the city.
All those chosen were nominated for a variety of reasons; whether they have been a great inspiration to others; carried out an innovative project within their community; dedicated a great deal of their time to projects or activities in the city; or made a significant financial contribution which has benefited Norwich.
Care worker Angie Goldsmith, from Rotary House for the Deaf in King Street, was nominated by Geoff Wells, father of one of the residents there.
He said: “Not only does Angie do the job brilliantly she goes above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that any events, social activities, days out or assistance required by the residents is organised.
“Angie supports the residents in hundreds of ways too vast to mention, and without her, the complex would not be the wonderful place to stay that it is. She is a worthy candidate for the Face of Norwich.”
Marilyn Winsdale, who has been a lollipop lady at Avenue First and Middle Schools for 27 years, was nominated by Emma Hazel.
She said: “Marilyn is now seeing the children of the children who she first helped cross the road.
“She is enthusiastic and committed to her role and serves as an inspiration for others. Marilyn is a wonderful character who signifies the spirit of Norwich and has, I am sure, made a huge impact on the lives of the children she so selflessly assists each day.”
Other winners include Puppet Man, famous in the city centre for his dance show involving puppets; former Norwich City player and Sheriff of Norwich Bryan Gunn; Norfolk raconteur Keith Skipper; and news reader Helen McDermott, PC Colin Lang, Jerry Lambert, Angie Goldsmith, Kim Doherty, Colin Keatley, Gill Dean and Danny and Kate Doran.
On Friday there will be a chance to for everyone to take part in the project. Simply head down to The Mall on Friday, June 22, between 10am and 5pm to have your photograph taken. Photographs will be taken on Level 1 opposite The Perfume Shop.
