He spent ten years churning out reports for an insurance company, but a Norwich man is now letting his creative juices flow after having his second highly-acclaimed crime novel published.
Steven Hague, 37, of Thorpe Hamlet, left Aviva (then Norwich Union) at the end of 2000 and then worked freelance for the investment marketing division of the company for two years before deciding to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming an author.
He has now released his second book, Blood Law, and is hoping his latest work will receive as much praise as his first novel, Justice For All, which was described as “A debut of the highest order... uncompromising from start to finish” by the Daily Mirror and “A pacy, page-turning read that's hard to put down” by the Eastern Daily Press.
Blood Law, “a faster action-packed ride with a few serious issues”, follows the story of lead character, ex-LAPD detective Zac Hunter, and is about gang and drug culture in Los Angeles, a subject the former Hellesdon High School pupil says he feels is important because of the increasing amount of knife crime and gang violence in this country.
The rock music enthusiast said: “It's something we need to be aware of as we could go down a similar route - there is a lot we can learn. I am very pleased with this one and very excited - it was a big thrill to get the first book published but now I think I've moved up another level.
“Each book takes me about a year to write - about six months of research and about six months to write and edit it.
“It's relatively early days and it's a very competitive market but it's going okay at this point. I've already finished my third book and that is with the publisher at the moment, so I've got one in the bag.”
The book, which is published by Mira Publishers, is available at all major bookshops and book websites for £6.99.
Mr Hague, who is married to Lisa, will be doing a book signing at Waterstone's on Castle Street at midday on Saturday, August 15.
