Being named Hero of Heroes was a complete shock to Tracy Melton, but not to the enthusiastic youngsters who are living their dreams as part of her drama and singing group.

Our unsung heroes honoured at ceremony
The unsung heroes of our community were celebrated at the Evening News Local Heroes 2007 competition awards evening. There was laughter and tears, but above all admiration for the people in the region who had tales to tell to encourage and inspire others.

The words Will’s mum wanted to say
Will Tweedy's mum Lorraine had written a speech to mark the first presentation of the the Will Tweedy Memorial Award, named in her brave son's memory and presented to the winners of the Brave Child category, but on the night she was too overcome with emotion to deliver it.

A brave schoolgirl who survived two years of gruelling cancer treatment is the latest nomination for the Evening News' Local Heroes Awards.
Leah Wilby, from Garrison Road, Great Yarmouth, was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a common cancer in children, in November 2004.
