The
festival officially launches at Waterstone’s Castle
Street at 2.45p.m on May 24th when the Gruffalo will
preside over our balloon race along with members of
the Forum Book Club.

all day on the 24th and we also have local author Gilly
Wilkinson in store all day celebrating the launch.
The fun continues throughout half term
with visits from Pippi Longstocking, Maisy Mouse, Winnie

18th birthday on May 31st and there will be a birthday
party with him as guest of honour at Waterstone’s
Castle Street on the 31st at 3.30pm.
It is not just favourite characters who
will be visiting during the festival – we have
many authors popping in through out the three weeks.

to the Children’s Library on May 27th; Titania
Woods is holding a Glitterwings Academy fairy party
there on May 29th; and Justin Somper, author of the
Vampirate books, will be in Waterstone’s Castle

Logo competition
We had some fantastic entries for competition
to design the official Festival logo, when we asked
children to come up with a wacky, weird and wonderful
drawing of a monster. The winning design, from Emily
Munt, 12, of Drayton, features on all the publicity
materials for the Festival.
The winner also receives a £50 gift card from
Waterstone’s and there are three runners up prizes
of a parcel of children’s books, one for each
age category. All entries to the competition will form
part of a special exhibition in the Millennium Library
from May 1.
