The A47 was closed in the westbound direction at Thickthorn on Friday after two cars were involved in a crash.

The police, fire and ambulance services were called to the scene near Cringleford at 11.05am.

An Audi and a Fiesta crashed, resulting in damage to the central and near-side reservations.

Two people have been taken to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital with minor injuries.

Firefighters from Carrow, Earlham and Sprowston went to the scene and used hydraulic rescue equipment to free two people.

Motorists were warned to expect delays in the area, as the A47 westbound carriageway between the A140 and the A11 Thickthorn roundabout were closed.

Reports at 1.30pm suggested that traffic had begun to move again.

At 1.58pm, the Norfolk Constabulary confirmed the road had reopened.
