David Wagner believes the St Andrews pressure cooker will prepare his Norwich City side for a Championship play-off tilt.

The Canaries face Birmingham City on the final day of the regular season this afternoon, hoping to secure the final top six place they've craved throughout the campaign.

The Blues, by contrast, are fighting for their second tier lives, with only a win giving them a realistic chance of getting out of the bottom three.

Wagner says that although Gary Rowett's side won't pose a similar threat to City's likely opponents in the play-offs, the atmosphere surrounding the game will prepare them for the jeopardy of the mini-tournament.

"I would say from the tactical approach I think it's fair to say that Birmingham use a different setup to what the possible play-off contenders probably do," he admitted.

"But in terms of the occasion and the focus on this game, it's quite comparable, isn't it? This is top, for us to experience this even before the post-season starts.

"First of all we'd like to do our job, which is performing again on a very, very good level, showing that in ball possession we know exactly how we want to attack and showing out of possession how competitive we are.

"I'm really looking forward to this game, because obviously we have a lot of trust, belief and confidence in ourselves. We like to face exactly these challenges, and this is what we will do."

Norwich have shown on numerous occasions this season their ability to win with all eyes on them, and the 52-year-old says that stands them in good stead this weekend.

"I have every trust and belief that we as a group and the players on the pitch will deal with this situation," he continued at his pre-match press conference. "I think In have every reason to have trust and belief in the guys when you see what they have done.

"We like to be part of it, and we'd like to be a positive part of it, this is exactly how it is. Yes, there are a lot of things going on for Birmingham behind the scenes.

"They played Rotherham and Huddersfield in their last two games and knew that if they won one they were more or less safe. They haven't done this, and now they play Norwich at home.

"There can be better moments for them to face us, but at the end of the day it's about us. We're only focused on us and doing our job, like we have done in the past.

"Again, to be involved in such an important game, a big game where it counts, is absolutely good and fine. I like it that everyone has to keep their sharpness, concentration and focus on the highest level.

"The players have consistently done this very, very well, and this is why I have so much trust and belief in them."

Although Ashley Barnes' calf injury, which is expected to keep him out of contention until the play-off final, was a blow during last week's draw with Swansea, City's injury issues have started to clear up.

First-choice left-back Dimitris Giannoulis could make a return to the line-up in B9, having completed a full week's team training as expected.

Club captain Grant Hanley could also feature after he trained for the week. The Scot made the bench for the Swans draw but wasn't used.

"In general I think it looks good," said Wagner of his squad's fitness. "Dimi has been back in training the whole week, if everything goes to plan tomorrow he will be back in the matchday squad.

"Otherwise all good, everyone was more or less fully involved, and it looks like everybody is ready for the Birmingham game.

"Grant had a second week of full training without any issues, and this means we now attack the game. Then we will see what the post-season brings."
