Two roads in Norwich will close for almost two months as works to improve pavements are carried out.

The project along sections of Lyhart Road began on Tuesday and is not expected to be completed until the first week of July.

The £95,700 works will replace the existing worn sections of pavement surface with a new asphalt surface and replace damaged kerbs and edgings.

For the works to be carried out safely, Lyhart Road and Irving Road will be temporarily closed to through traffic.

Fully signed diversion routes are in place and pedestrians are being directed around the works with signage and barriers.

To minimise the impact of the closure, the work will be carried out in phases to keep as much of the highway open as possible.

There will, however, be periods where vehicle access to properties and side roads will be delayed or suspended during the works.

On completion, the reconstructed footway should give an improved and continuous surface for pedestrians while also reducing maintenance costs.

The work is being carried out by Norfolk County Council’s Community and Environmental Services Department and their contractors.
